My Journaling Journey: How Writing Down My Thoughts Helped Me Find Clarity and Calm

As a dentist and psychologist, I’ve always been passionate about helping others achieve optimal health and well-being. But, like many of us, I’ve also faced my own share of stress, anxiety, and self-doubt. That’s when I discovered the power of journaling.

No, journaling is not the same as maintaining a daily diary. Writing a diary involves recording the details of daily events. On the other hand, journaling is an internal process that uses the written word to express the range of emotions, reactions, and thoughts related to activities or events in our lives.

For me, journaling started as a way to process my emotions and clear my mind. I’d write down my thoughts, feelings, and concerns. It felt like I had finally found a way to untangle the knots in my brain and make sense of my chaotic thoughts.

I remember the exact moment when I realized I needed to start journaling. I was overwhelmed with work, struggling to balance my responsibilities, and feeling like I was losing myself in the process. I was anxious, stressed, and unsure of how to manage my emotions. I wanted to talk to someone—but that someone wasn’t there to hear me out.

That’s when I grabbed a notebook and started scribbling down my thoughts. I remembered an article I had read about therapeutic journaling. At first, I was skeptical—I’d never been much of a writer, and I didn’t think I had the time or discipline to maintain a journal. But I decided to give it a try.
